DSI looking into Buri Ram forest encroachment

The Department of Special Investigation is considering whether to take over a case of alleged encroachment involving more than 2,000 rai of a forest reserve in Satuk district planted in cash crops by investors. A team of DSI investigators went to Khok Chod national forest reserve on 15 June to inspect the area and questioned local people about the alleged encroachment. Their visit followed complaints from residents of tambon Ronthong that some investors and other residents had illegally cut trees, cleared land and planted over 2,000 rai of the forest in cash crops such as rubber trees, sugar cane and cassava.
